fishinben351
Looking to get either a cabin style portable, like the frabill refuge or a hub style like an eskimo fatfish. I have a x2 clam at the moment and looking to get something lighter. Any thoughts thanks.
TyGuy02
How do you fish? neither have a sled, but with the cabin style, it'll be harder to organize in a sled. I've used both types and will never go to a cabin style again, but that's just the way I fish. Cabin style isn't bad if you can drive out with all the gear in your pickup, or be able to set it on an atv rack and pull gear in a sled. I have a hub bigfoot now and love that it fits very nice on top of the sled. But nothing will beat your X2 for mobility!
fishinben351
i usually pull my ice house out.i love my fishtrap x2 but its very hard to lift bymyself up in the back of my truck, and with my new work hours ill be fishing a lot bymyself. Just want to know what type would be the easiest to set up and lift by yourself.
ClownColor
Hubs are my top choice. Extremely light weight and very universal for most fishing applications. Though they may not be the "best" for each type of fishing (nothing beats a flip over for run and gun and mobility) but works great for all uses.My jury is still out on durability. Poles will break and windows crack. But I was able to order 10 poles for just shipping so I should be safe for awhile.
TyGuy02
An option to help lift into the back of a pickup is to use a pair of 2x4s. Just keep them in the back of the pickup and use it as a ramp to help lift the sled into it. my old flipover was long enough so that it was easy to lift 1/2 the way up, then go down and lift the bottom half. Now I have a small otter sled and it's too short, so I use the 2x4's and that really helps. If you pull your house out, you'll need a sled anyways for that, so going to a hub might disappoint you. Your fishtrap will be the easiest to setup and take down by yourself as well. The hubs are do-able by yourself, but by no means as easy as the flipovers
ammoman16
I have a Frabill Speed Shak XL that I'd be willing to trade. As far as cabin style houses go, it's about as good as they get and are extremely quick to set up.
nubbin
I have a very old fish trap that had lots of holes. I removed the poles and canvas, saved the sled and seats, add my new quik fish 3. Im very happy with my new setup.
