Changing Fishing Line

I change my fishing line at the start of the ice fishing season, but what is the rule of thumb for how often to change fishing line during the season, if at all?

.0nce a year is fine, next year use the other end of the spool by just eeling on to another rig. Line is getting Spendy use it all... maybe the following year rip 30 yds off and use the middle of the spool if it isn't to coiled up.

I just do a simple line break strength test at beginning of season and sometimes in middle of season. If it's strong, then I leave it on.
