Installing a plow on my dodge

Recommended Posts

hello again! I'm looking at a 2007 hiniker plow for my 2008 dodge. is this something I can do myself? the quote I got from a local shop seemed a little steep to me. also, will the wiring go from a '06 to my '08? I believe the mount will fit. if anyone has any thoughts, ideas, or advice I'll gladly take it. I'm in new territory here. never really dealt with installing a plow.

I believe everything will work if you have a good mechanical ability it can be done your self if you have all the instructions what may take you a day to do will take a shop 3-4 hours without the originally instructions for your Ram I wouldn't try it for a first time

I have some mechanical ability, but am not all that comfortable with the wiring aspect of it. the quote i got for just the install, because I'll have all the parts, was around $500. that seems kinda high, but then again, I've never done it, so if Ihad the money, it would certainly be money well spent, the problem is coming up with the money!! any other ideas? thanks for the responses so far!

$500 will be money well spent When I bought mine one of the mounting parts were backordered and the local shop was gonna borrow me the part if I had them do the install and they were about $750 Good Luck look at it this way if you spend the $500 you could get a couple driveway accounts say $25-$50 to make your money back

You should be able to go to the plow MFG HSOforum to see if the mount will fit. Most Rams from 03' to like 09' should be the same...at least that's what I see when getting parts and stuff. The HSOforum should also be able to get you a copy of the installation and owners manual too!

Your local dealer will be able to tell you if they are compatible also.

The Frame mount is only like 6-8 bolts into the Frame and a bunch more holding the brackets together on my BOSS plows. So that is drilling 3/4" or larger holes in the truck frame to secure the mount. If your comfortable with that stuff then it can be done. It also has to be mounted SQUARE grinwink

I would have a dealer install the wiring though.

I removed a full wire harness from an 01 Dodge ram when I sold the plow for that. It only took like 10 minutes to get it all out, but would take a lot longer to put it in from scratch to find the connectors etc.

Oh it's not that bad, I have installed over 20 Hiniker plow mounts and wiring. I can help. All the plow wiring will work but you might need a headlight relay kit for your headlights to work.

The mount is easy just unbolt the sway bar, bolt on the mount, and the rebolt the sway bar on. 1 hour tops.

i believe our shop is around 1500 bucks to swap plows... but they supply new wiring for everything... (that was installing a used plow from there lot) $500 bucks really doesn't sound terrible, considering they do not know what they are getting into once they start either....

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
