ski_otter
I have an older 8" SM lazer and was able to get out yesterday. I noticed when drilling that it seemed to hunt around a little bit and I sometimes needed to tilt the auger a bit to get it to bite.Blades new last year, but have easily 1000 holes drilledAre my blades shot or is my auger bent? How many holes (approximately) should I expect on a pair of blades assuming clean and debris free ice? fishwater
Is the centering point ok on it?
ski_otter
There isn't a centering point
Brad B
Ski_otter,is it the 8" lazer hand auger or the 8" lazer power auger. the hand augers don't have the centering point like the power ones do. this is what leads me to believe you are using a lazer hand auger and not a power auger. I guess if it was me I would try a new set of blades to see if that fixes the problem.

fisherman-andy
Could be a pitch issue? I would try this first, loosen and re-tighten down the blades, not to overtighten. Try new blades too if needed. And see if the same issues happen on different areas of ice. Dirty ice or uneven frozen ice can cause drilling issues. It could drill fine on one lake and on another it gives you issues.
