Grouse in the snow

Recommended Posts

Is anyone having any luck on the grouse with the snow on the ground? I spent a few hours in some great grouse habitat this morning with zero flushes. I worked the pines and blowdowns north of Duluth and was surprised that I didn't find any. There is probably about 4 inches of the white stuff where I hunted. If you're having any luck, what type of habitat are you hunting?

Snow is melting for a couple days but there is still some snow on the ground. Went out yesterday evening and shot 4, saw 5. I found grouse around Aspen, Birch trees and open trails. Did not see anything around the pines/spruce trees. In every crop they were eating the ends of branches and some other stuff from trees or bushes. I couldn't tell what they were.

4 were together and I was able to get them all, a triple then looked around after picking the first 3 up then saw another and bang. The first one flew out of a tree behind me and flew over my head, too late to get a shot.

I went last week for a little bit too, more snow on the ground and it was colder and didn't see anything. Walked the same spot yesterday...so I guess weather plays a role, maybe? Private Land also.
