sunnyman24
Hey guys!!! I'm new to the forum. I have been reading it for quite a while though. I just bought a black betty reel from 13 fishing. I am gonna put it on a J/M meatstick rod. Mainly for panfish but I would like to try using it for walleyes a little. Is the gonna be much difference in the 28" vs 24"? And please don't say 4 inches!!! LOL! Thanks in advance for any advice!
Fishin4fun_MN
4", but it depends on if it is medium light or medium action.

You will like the 28" better it loads up nicer and being longer it handles fish easier. Unless you like being right over the hole or want to use it for site fishing then maybe the 24"
Rod Woten
Are you planning on using the meatstick for walleyes? I would advise against it... Stick to panfish with the meatstick. ??? The Meatstick was actually designed to be used as a deadstick for walleyes.....-Rod
muc33
Rod is absolutely correct. My 28's are great dead stick rods. No bobber mess, no beads and strings, I love it especially when I am fishing outside and hole hopping I can see the tip movement where a bobber may be not visable from a distance. I use my 20" meat sticks as finess rods with just ever so slight movement for my plastics. The 24 is a great little perch rod. Maybe just a 3mm fiska and a Euro Larvae and that tip gives it away and there is plenty of backbone for the hookset and fight and I have landed several nice walleye with them. I will caution that the 28" tip is very easy to break, have have done a couple. That is when a great hard case comes in handy! I lovey meatsticks! mccullen
Was thinking the same thing. The meatstick works just fine for pulling walleyes through the hole. I fell in love with it after a trip to LOW. 24" medium light, my buddies called it the 90 degree rod because of the way it bends compared to a normal rod. Getting your timing right on when to set the hook is the only thing that I had to get used to. After you get the feel, or more correctly the sight, of the rod I have no doubt that you will like it.I untie my jig after each day out as to not have any load on the tip while in the bag. If you take care of it it will not break but, you do have to pay more attention to it than other rods in your bag. Go target walleyes with this rod and have fun watching that rod tip bend. mww24
There great for walleyes too. I landed a 20.5" largemouth on a noodle rod last year. Rod held up fine. Fish away with a great combo.
FirstIce
Deadstick finesse ok. In no way is this a spoon jigging walleye rod. The tip is way to light for getting the best control out of your spoons. There are better options than the meatstick for jigging spoons
Bobb-o
i was catching walleyes last night on the Black Betty reel with a Quiverstick for my jigging rod and the Black Betty combo for my bobber rod
sunnyman24
Wow thanks for all the advice. It will mainly be a panny rod and occasionally a deadstick eye rod. I'm gonna try it today. I got the 28" in case I end up using more for eyes.
