Garmin eTrex lake chips...

I have a Garmin eTrex Cx GPS that I bought in 2006 I think and am wondering what is available anymore for lakemaster style chips for them. Didn't lakemaster get bought out or something? I'm looking for something that will have some of the local lakes in the Duluth/Cromwell areas and bigger lakes in the state like LoW, Winnie, and Mille lacs. At one time I knew what to buy but it's been a few years since I've looked into it. Am I better off just getting a different GPS?

Do you know what model you have? Vista, Venture, Legend, Summit, GPSMap and so on?

Garmin makes the Upper Midwest Fishing Guide, whether you can use a MicroSD card or the CD/DVD will depend on which Garmin you have.

The Upper Midwest Fishing Guide covers a lot of lakes and will more than likely be what you are looking for.

Let us know what you have.

It's a Vista, pretty much the same thing as a Legend. I guess I forgot to add that in. It has a Micro SD slot and I have a 64mb chip that came with it.

I found the Upper Midwest fishing guide. Looks pretty solid. The handful of smaller local lakes that popped into my head are all on there.

I also see it will work with my GPS.

Is it decent software?

Since I have this chip already would I be best off just buying the dvd? It seems like there are more features if you go that route.

I'm assuming the software doesn't just show metric depths like it shows on the HSOforum? As much as I like the metric system I'd rather just see feet for this purpose, haha.

I agree, this should be the chip you want. I would get the MicroSD card, that way if you get another Garmin down the road and it takes the MicroSD card, you can drop it into that one too.

When you are on the page for the Upper Midwest Fishing Guide, the tab left of the Compatible Devices lets you see some of the Coverage Details, on that page there is a Interactive Map, you might be able to get a 'taste' of what this map will do for you, it's not the best and does not represent the chip to its full extent but it does give you and idea of what is covered.

When you get it, it does show feet, not meters.

MN Mike, I tried to PM you this but couldn't. I can definitely use the micro sd card in a different garmin gps if I decide to buy one? On the garmin HSOforum it says that the download version can only be used on one device but for the dvd and chip versions it doesn't say anything about whether it can be used on more than one.

The MicroSD chip is the only one that can be swapped between GPS devices. The download and DVD are tied to the GPS device you register them with, they are pretty strict about this policy.

The last I saw, I believe Reeds had the UMWFG for about $90

I'll have to check on the PM's....

Thanks

Mike
