GPS...

Unless you plan on buying a older Lakemaster card you won't have any luck putting a new Lakemaster card in any handheld GPS, that all ended about a year and a half ago when Johnson Outdoors ( Humminbird ) bought Lakemaster.

If you do plan on getting an older Lakemaster card, you have to make sure it's for the brand of GPS you have, they were specific to the manufacture, then you had to get the right region or state you wanted..... it was a pain.

Garmin made this all easier when they came out with the Upper Midwest Fishing Guide about a year ago now, as it looks to me, they retained the Lakemaster data on the UMWFG card PLUS they combined all of the states and regions in our area on one card ( the card runs about $100 or less ). Another good thing is Garmin also includes some road detail on this card too.

Some good sales coming up on Garmin handhelds for the holiday season, I see Reeds is packaging the Garmin GPS with the UMWFG ready to go, Cabelas has a sale starting the 23rd also.

Garmins handhelds are pretty similar, the physical layout of buttons or touchscreen is what sets them apart ( plus screen size ), you just have to find what you like. The 78 series float, just so you know.

Most of the handhelds will accept the MicroSD card but you will want to double check before you pull the trigger.

Good luck!

Mike

Navionics app for my iphone was about 10 bucks...works great. The gps works without a cell signal, so if I'm going out of range I just have to remember to load the maps I need ahead of time. It includes hd maps as well. I've compared it to my gps on my hummingbird when on the open water, and it seems to match up pretty close. I say again...10 bucks.
