olbaidhh
I have decided on a floor for my 94x94 hub portable. A basic indoor\outdoor light waterproof carpet. Here is the link to the thread : Floor Ideas on HotSpot However... I want to pre-cut the holes in it, what do you think will be the best layout- most of the time 2 or 3 guys with an occasional 4th. The hub shelter is a 94x94. layout ideas:(click link\#) #1 #2 #3 Any other ideas?
LPCrowRiverFisherman
I think the last one would work best for having room for everybody. Your two holes are next to each other like they would be in a flip over, and now there is room for equipment between yours and the next persons holes. Good for convenience and storage. BartmanMN
Last one does look pretty good. Make sure the corners have enough room for a flasher. Also think about where the heater will be placed.
MNCPRGUY
I'm thinking #1 based on the doors being in the corners and ease of entry/exit. Another question I have would be if you want the holes closer to the middle and your backs towards the shelter (so you can see what is going on in the house) or if you want your backs toward the middle and the holes around the outside?Carpet or not, I'm interested to know what others use for hole configurations in 3-4 man hubs. fowldreams
If having 4 guys in there will be a rare occasion, just put 6 holes and utilize that extra space for the extra items that always seem to be brought along. Better entry/exit opportunity with out stepping over people or stuff . Just a thought
hawgchaser
My portable is 6X6. My floor consists 4 separate 1'X4' pieces of 1/4" floor underlay with three coats of water seal (both sides) and outdoor carpet on one side. The pieces are hinged so it folds up accordion style to a size of 1'X4'X2". It weighs 6 to 7 lb. In your case, you'd probably want a 6'X6' floor which would make the weight somewhere around 15lb. Two of my fishing buddies have copied my floor for their portables, so it seems to have passed the performance test.My hole layout in such a small space is basically four corners with the door corner offset to allow us to get out without knocking equipment around. Yours can be much more suited to your fishing habits. We sit in my Otter sled to fish so basically use the floor to keep us and our gear off the slush & snow and our feet off the ice. olbaidhh
now that I look at these closer... #1 is out because of the doors.. both doors would have 2 holes in front of them. It would have to be #2 or #3. OR ???

Just a thought YES I don't need that many holes, I am thinking 6 holes would be enough so I am leaning towards #3 and just eliminate the holes in front of the doors ? magnum mike
I have a buddy that gave me the perforated rubber mat used behind bars. It is heavy duty, stays flexible and doesn't freeze down in my Command Post.
silverbulletguy
If you go with # 3 everyone will have their back to the middle. Makes for awkward conversation. I'd put your back along a wall near a corner with holes midway along the wall. I'd set up away from one of the doors and just the one door. B-man715
Picture yourself setting up the shack and drilling holes. Having precut holes means you have to pre-mark holes, or spend a half hour cleaning ice shavings off the carpet from drilling. It would be much faster to use a 6x8 peice of carpet through the middle of the shack and having a "trough" on the long sides. That way you could pop up the shack, drill as many holes as you please on the long sides, then lay down the carpet through the middle. If you were fishing with just 2 guys, you could have the carpet off-set tight to one wall, and have a two foot trough instead of a one foot one. -Just thinking about a faster way
