Recommended Posts

Any tips for hunting wind at special hunts when you dont have alot of time to find mutiple spots. I am hunting Baker park shotgun hunt. I have done alot of scouting and found one main spot that has alot of good sign. A few of the other spots didnt have the greatest sign. Just looking for some imput if the wind is not what i want for my spot?

If you want to hunt a specific area you sometimes have to loop around that area and approach from a different direction so your scent isn't blowing into the area. It is also extremely important to know or at least have an idea where the deer are bedding or what direction they are coming from, you don't want you scent to blow in those directions either. If possible I try and have my scent blow over water or an area I know the deer won't approach from, you can't alwasy setup this way but its important to try.

I’ve hunted a couple of park hunts although not Baker Park. In my experience I’ve found that deer can come from just about any direction so no matter how you setup you could have deer coming in downwind of you. With that said I’ve also found that in parks where there are a lot of hiking and biking trails that people use year around. Those deer are not bothered much by human scent.

I agree with John. Always try to cover your scent as much as you can, but these park hunts where you gets lots of people in them year round the deer are not as spooked by human scent as they would be in a forested area where humans are less active. Also if there are a lot of hunters cut loose in the park, the deer could come from anywhere as they are being pushed around. I would do your best to cover your scent, but hunt the area you feel most confident it.
