Adrenaline packed weekend!

Saturday morning I set up in a spot on a spur of the moment decision friday night. Around 8 I hear what sounds like a deer to my right in a ravine. I use my bleat to attempt to lure it out. A few minutes pass and nothing. Decide to settle back in and put my gun down. As I do I hear movement to my left. There stands a nice buck staring at me and sees my movement and spooks. He's moving quick, but not running. I see his antlers and decide he's a shooter. I pick out a lane and he enters it and I fire. he does'nt look hit as he runs away. Time goes by and I get down and search every where and no blood and no sign of a hit deer. All I manage to find is the copper jacket from my Hornaday 270win. I decide to go home and replayed it in my head over and over. Kicking myself for shooting at a moving deer. I decide to take the evening off as I'm very frustated.

Sunday morning. I sit in another spot thats about 400 yards to the west of my saturday spot. Before legal light I hear deer coming. I see a doe and fawn and they hang around til just after legal light and slowly walk away. About a half hour passes and I hear crashing from the northwest. Out comes a doe being chased by a fork and a spike. They chase her all over in front of me and finally the fork chasing her off right under my stand leaving the spike out in front of me. Not thirty seconds goes by and more crashing to the northwest. Here comes two does being chased by a six pt. He runs right in front of me by the spike. The six notices the spike and stops and starts posturing. He slowly gets closer to the spike and lets out a snort wheeze. The spike runs of a little way and then they hang around for about fifteen minutes. The six makes a rub thirty yards from me. Awhile passes and I hear another deer, but it won't come out and I never see what it is. Time passes and I hear crashing to the west. I see a deer bring up my scope and it's a nice deer, but I'm not sure how big. It walks off never offering a shot. The wind switched and I decide I better get down and get bacck on the west side of this endless funnel.

Sunday Evening. I'm set up by 2pm. Just before three I hear more crashing. I see another small buck run a doe in front of me. They crassh around for awhile and go on their way. A little before 4 I hear a deer, but this time alone. I see a flash and put my scope up and see it's a good buck, but I'm not sure how nice. I grunt, and bleat trying to get a better look. He shows no interest. All of a sudden I hear smash!!! Two bucks are battling and making more noise then I've ever heard any animal make in the woods. It seems to go on for minutes. Grunting, snort wheezing, and grinding antlers. Finally one gets run off and I think, here's my chance! I grunt a couple times and here he comes over the hill. I take my shot and he runs and falls fifty yards in front of my stand. I did think he was bigger but nonetheless a great northern MN buck. The craziest and most adrenaline packed day I've ever experienced.
