Type of paint for a Spear

Hey guys,

I am trying to resurrect an old spear that was very rusty to use as a back up. I have cleaned all of the rust off by soaking in vinegar then scrubing with a wire brush. Turned out better then I thought it would but there is some decent pitting.

My questions is what type of paint should I use so that it is durable but also seals the metal well to prevent future rusting? I am thinking rustoleum spray paint, but I know a few of you have painted your spears so I want to get your opinions.

Thanks guys,

Bowhunt

Sounds like the cleaning has already been done...

I had mine powder coated clear. $20 at an industrial powder coating place. I really like it. They didn't do a great job (some thicker spots) but I am sure if you wanted to pay more you could get a nicer job somewhere else.

With the price of powder coat, I wouldn't recommend paint.

Thanks for the input guys. I doubt the spear was made by a known maker, but I could be wrong. I made the decision to clean it up because it is the only way I could use it, and I need a back up spear for cheap. It is already cleaned though, so no going back. I will have to look into the powder coating option.

I would still like to know if anyone has spray painted their spear what they used, and if they liked the results or not?

Thanks again,

Bowhunt

I spray painted my first spear which is not my backup spear. It's just a store bought cheapy so there was no worry about the value.

I just used a rattle can to paint it. It works okay just touch it up every so often
