A couple Marcum LX-7 questions

I just got my Lx-7. I ordered it from S Guide. First off I had to do the 2.9 update, which I thought being as they have been out for awhile I would not have to do.Then when I went to charge it I noticed it had a 7.2 amp battery instead of a 9amp. On the box it says it is supposed to come with a 9amp just like my LX-5. Also I have had it on the charger since 8am Saturday morning and it is still showing red. Just wondering if anyone else's came with a 7.2amp battery or did I get one that maybe someone returned after taking the 9amp battery? Also did I maybe get a bad charger? Just want to know so I have an idea what to tell Marcum CS when I call on Monday. THANKS.

to me it sounds like sportsmans guide sold you a returned unit. the very first run of these did not have 2.9 and that is why it might have been returned because it was having the issue that 2.9 corrected. most likely the person switched the battery with one they had so they would have a 9Amp. to rule out a bad charger take the unit out of the soft case and make sure the wires are tight on the battery terminals. on my unit they tend to get a little loose at times. I have crimped them down a little to tighten them and that has help but I have also noticed when you run the charging wire thru the back of the soft pack that the wires disconnect from the battery if you pull the wire to far. this is why you should try to charge the battery out of the soft pack. if the battery still doesn't not charge then it is a bad battery or charger. to rule out which one I would take another battery that you know is good and try it on the unit. I would also try a different charger if you have one even if you need to connect it right to the terminals on the battery directly. I don't think this is a Marcum customer service issue. it is something I would talk to sportsmans guide about first. if they don't fix the problem then talk to marcum.

Thanks Brad B! I did take it out of the soft pack and have already crimped the terminals as I had read that some were loose right out of the gate. I got a pretty good deal on it. Maybe now I know why! Bought my LX-5 from them never had a problem. I figured I would talk to SG first anyway.

the reason you never had a issue with the LX5 is beacause that is mechanicaly operated and does not run off software like the LX7 does. I like the fact that the LX6, LX7, & LX9 are all upgradeable as new software comes out for them. also if you haven't heard there is a upgrade in the works for those of us that own LX7's and want to upgrade it to a LX 9. details should hopefully be released in November.

Yes I know about the upgrades. I called marcum with a few questions earlier last month and he told me they were working on those. I really appreciate your help though. Thanks again. Hopefully I can work something out with S Guide because the little I got to play with the 7 I can see it is going to be a great addition to my ice fishing arsenal. I tried to do update on my computer at home but could not get it to work. I have windows 7 and maybe that had something to do with it. Brought it in to work and got it work here.
