JONOV
At the risk of starting a Ford-Chevy debate...I am going to buy a case for a trip to North Dakota, and had a few questions...First: In the past, i've bought hevi-steel, and was pleased with it. Now, they seem to have replaced it with HeviMetal. The HeviMetal is a mix between steel and hevi-shot. Doesn't this create some wierd patterns on shots that have any kind of left to right swing on them? Without spending the cash on HeviShot, are there good higher density shells that will allow me to shoot a smaller shot size?I've also had good luck with Black Cloud, but it does seem to tear them up sometimes and is a little bit filthy to clean out of the gun...Last year I went with cheap Winchesters and regretted it, too many birds flying off missing a few feathers but no worse for wear. carpshooterdeluxe
what range are you taking shots? What choke do you like to shoot?Hevimetal patterns good once you find the choke that works in your gun with the load. That's why they created the load; pattern density. Winchester Xtended HD is a great load, and can be found cheaper than most other straight tungsten loads online. If your pulling feathers with steel, you're probably doing something wrong shooting technique wise or you're shooting at birds too far away perhaps. Shane Z
I have been shooting Hevi-Metal for the past three years and have been very pleased with it. From shooting snows, to northern Mallards, to large Canada's, it's worked well for me. Winchester Supremes are also a great shell. This year I picked up a Kicks High Flyer after using the other brand for many years and I can say my kicks has been a great addition. fishuhalik
I dunno, maybe I'm just cheap, but I've been using cheap Kent shells and have had great luck & wounded very few ducks. IMHO you can't beat em, especially at $10/box when they're on sale.
