gamberc
Im looking for a set of rattle reels for the ice shack. What do you guys recommend or like. I've been looking at the catch cover rattle reels. I like the idea of being able to choose between rattle reel or rod holder.

walleye-
I have lindells and they do work nice but the rattles are very quiet. My other house has the ht orange ones and those are much louder and work fine. Maybe im just loosing my hearing!
Rick G
I have the original Rattle reels in my house and dont have any complaints. You can find them at most of the big box stores for around $10-$15, they are made of wood so they will last and the bell is plenty loud enough to wake me. pushbutton
Rattlesnake type reels are my top choice, not a real loud "rattle" on the named brand, but REALLY like the flexible arm.

walleye-
Has anyone ever drilled a hole in lindells and added extra bells. I think all that is in there are some solid beads I think I might try it.
LindellProStaf
Hi walleye. Just take the spool off the rod. Put extra beads or whatever you want in the hole the rod goes through. It must be something that will roll and not just slide that is why I use glass beads.. Find them at tackle stores.
LindellProStaf
Hi again walleye. Some people tell me they put in some split shot to make the different rigs have a different sound.
walleye-
ok thanks for the advice I really didnt want to drill into them but thought that would be the only option. Other than that they are great.
Hawg
I also think Lindells are the smoothest BUT they don't fit closely to the wall like the wood ones. My house is only 6x8 and that few inches on each side make a difference with all the other junk you are always moving around. You can modify them I suppose but they can be pretty spendy. A plain old 1/4 pound line spool on a short metal shaft or smooth bolt would be the same if you put rattles in them.
Nisswaguy
Any thoughts on the Lewandoski rattle reels?
Hawg
They look to be the same as the Lindells only BIGGER. I would do Lindell's if I was looking but there are knock offs that are the same, but not much cheaper.
Nisswaguy
What is it that people like about the Lindell's? Why do people consider them "better" than the others on the market? Just curious to know. Not trying to get into a [poor word choice] match.

Just curious to know. Not trying to get into a [poor word choice] match. I've wondered the same thing. I've used them and didn't really care for them. I much prefer the old school "rattle reel" brand made from wood with the loud jingle bells inside. Something about rattling plastic or glass beads just doesn't' have the same ring to it. Lip_Ripper Guy
I don't care for the glass or plastic beads, either. What I do like about those is the tiny mounting bracket, to easily remove the rattle reels when they aren't being used. I don't see a mounting option like that with the wooden Productive Alternatives reels.
