I used my snowmobile today to pull my permanent on lake. On my way back to landing, I had plastic shavings against flap and smoke coming out of both Hifax rolleyes.gif

I think I cooked them a little (or a lot), does anybody know where I can buy some of these add ons that scrapes ice and cool track while traveling on ice?

Any online store ?

Thanks.

Well for one, you shouldn't have had your sled out there withough any snow. I know there is not alot of snow NOT ENOUGH TO RIDE ON! That is why you cooked them. If you would like ice scratchers do a search on www.google.com Ice scratchers are not full proof either. to me there a waist of cash. My freind used them and he still melted his hifax!

Oh yea i forgot to let you know a tip! When you get new hifax, take a dremmel and make to grooves all the way up the slide! that way any snow or ice will pack into those grooves and provide better cooling, the do sell them like that but there way over priced!

CD.....eehhhm, my sled is an Arctic Cat Prowler...... I do also have a Yamaha which had no problem.

Anyway, I already studied the situation, icescratchers are just overpriced tractor tines, if I talk to a farmer, they'll load my pick up full for free.

I made a long rod, strapped to 1 sky and I bent it to scrape ice hard when traveling.

Did it work ? Yes to a certain point, it did make a lot of shavings, but I don't think it did help much saving my hifax. I think it will be more effective on packed hard snow, more than ice.

I've been using sled for last few days, I think only solution is going slow, very slow....still beats walking.

Elusivecrappiecatcher, the fact is: There Is No Snow At All here in south metro, maybe after tonight we'll get some.
I bought sled to don't walk on ice....I should have gotten an ATV (then we would have had 4ft of snow... rolleyes.gif )

Regardless of what sled you have, one of the best tips to help keep the hyfax run cooler and last longer is to cut a couple of slots on the bottom surfaces. If you happen to have a table saw this will take you all of 5 minutes.Set the fence of the saw so that the slots will come out about 1/2 inch apart.
Set the blade for about 1/4 inch depth of cut.Now you can cut the two shallow slots that are the width of the saw blade the entire length of the hyfax. If you don't have a table saw you can also go with driling a bunch of 1/8 inch diameter holes a 1/4 inch deep stagger pattern the entire length of the bottom of the slides.

Elusive Crappie Catcher: Thanks for bringing up this old racers tip.

Have a good one guys!!
