leech~~
I have been looking into hunting goose out in LP and was talking to one guy that said his pits for rent were in the first field right out of the refuge. Do you think it would be better back from the refuge a 1/2 mile or so? It seems like the birds wouldn't jump into the first field they fly over right after leaving the water in the morning? When we hunted down in Rochester a few years ago we were about a mile out of the refuge and did pretty well with birds we could see coming all the way. Huey
The pits on the edge of the refuge are basically for pass shooting. We would put out decoys, but rarely had birds land in them. Your hunting for the day will depend on the weather (low skies and heavy winds are best) and which way the geese decide to head out of the refuge. Some days you just get to see the show as thoudands of birds fly out the other side. Other days they come over you but way high. Then on some days they you and actually within range. We also hunted away from the refuge and had some luck with decoying flocks of geese. You just see way fewer birds.Personally I like to be close the refuge and get to see the big flocks of birds come alive in the morning.
