Notice of Copyright Infringement

I don't own an ipod or have any digital music saved on anything. However I received 4 emails from my ISP notifying me of copy write infringements that took place over my internet. It turns out my son, who was home from college for the summer, downloaded 4 songs.

I’m sure this stuff happens all the time, but the emails are a little threatening and are instructing me to go to some HSOforum for a company called “Rightscorp” and pay $20.00 per infringement.

Does anyone here have any information or experience with this?

I would do a lookup on the web and be sure that it is in fact your ISP. It sounds like a phishing scam to me.

Guaranteed if you were being charged with something, you would be getting legal papers in the mail, not from an email.

I'm sure there is no legal action being taken at this time, but the question is will there be legal action taken if I don't go to the HSOforum and pay the $80.00 (4x$20each)?

I read the article that upnorth posted. Thanks for doing that. It doesn't sound like it's a scam to me. It sounds like its an effort from the music company to crack down on free downloads and collect some $$. I don't know if they will (or have a right to) proceed with legal action if this isn't paid.
