Ford Plant Dam

Recommended Posts

Looking for info about the Ford plant dam...I work 2 miles from there and it's been eating at me to give it a shot for a while. Water looks plenty low there now.

I've got a 16 foot aluminum Lund with a 25 on it...will this work in there? What do I need to look out for? Is it smart to go in there without someone who has been in there?

I guess any info about what to do/what not to do in there would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Should be fine in that boat. Have caught a lot of decent fish up by the dam sitting in the back flow casting into the current. Never any Muskies though. Musky Inc just had an outing there but didn't find any either.

Going with someone who has been there before always helps, If it's your first time out there i would recommend bringing someone with you as trailering your boat by yourself can be somewhat difficult.

Good Luck

I used to fish around there, although not for muskies. The guys who caught them always told me to try the area where Minnehaha Creek comes in. Good luck if you give it a try. No question you'd increase your chances if you took 46th street west to either Lake Harriet or Lake Calhoun.

That boat is fine for that area.

I've seen a few skis come out of that area, but yeah minnehaha creek confluence like mentioned above. Also in the spring.

And I've seen a few floaters coming down the river in that area too.

Definitely muskies through there. But I'd expect it to really take 10,000 casts.

Something about the river just intrigues me

I hear you there. I fish moving water a lot. In fact I was wading a few weeks ago and a little 26" muskie just swam right by me. Just be careful below the Ford dam. Those barges scare the carp out of me!
