TooTallTom
Does anyone have any experience using paint that's marketed specifically for gunsights? Is it any more durable than hobby paint? I'd like to brighten up one that can't be switched out, and the hobby paint I used comes off when cleaning. That's obviously not what I was looking for. Thanks. lakevet
TTT,Not aware of any gunsight specific paint. Have used blaze orange fingernail polish.......specifically "Flame" by Claire's cosmetics. Was told by women I know that it is the most durable nail polish they knew of. My wife doesn't wear nail polish, so I had to shop for it myself. I always walked into the stores and said I wanted fingernail polish for painting gunsights. Must be more than a few guys doing this as they knew what I was looking for right away. Put it on front sight of a gun that is dragged thru the woods a lot each year. Put it on sight 4 years ago and is still a nice bead. Been from 20 to 30F below to boiling hot water for cleaning many many times. Also used on couple other rifles and has stayed on well. I just took some emery cloth to the area to be painted, then placed a drop of polish on the gunsight with the muzzle down. Left it muzzle down propped in a corner til morning. The polish formed a nice domed bead.lakevet
TooTallTom
Thanks lakevet, I'll give that a try. I realized after the paint came off that I hadn't roughed the areas I was painting, and that that was probably a mistake. Neither is super smooth to begin with, but still...
