Smontanye...

The sure fire way to tell if the XLT you looked at is the "Special" is to measure the overall width of the front end. From the outside of one ski to the outside of the other. If you find a 48" to 49" measurement, you're looking at a Special. A little catch with the width. If you are EVER going to ride in Wisconsin, YOU WILL BE ILLEGAL!! They have a very strict law that basically says the max width, at full suspension compression is 48". NO MORE!! The XLT-SP will exceed that by at least an inch when fully bottomed out. And they DO enforce it. It cost me close to $500.00 to find out.

As for the motor.... Do you know WHY it was rebuilt? My guess is that either he(she) burned it down with too lean jetting, installed the wrong aftermarket exhaust, or it spun a main bearing. A typical XLT monoblock problem. If "oilers" were not installed during the rebuild, chances are it may happen again.

I'm not trying to scare you away from the deal. In fact I feel $1600 is a great price. But there are just some things that need to be told about the 1995 XLT-SP that you may not be aware of. I own one and rather enjoy it. With a little clutch work, it's a great trail sled. Plenty of power for me and the Xtra-12 suspension is top notch. While all my buddies are getting beat up on their snocross sleds, I just motor past, letting the suspension do the work.

If you go ahead with the purchase, and/or need any other info or tips, drop me an email. I'll be glad to help you out if I can.

Hey Smon....

I hope I didn't scare you away from the deal for the 95. But, hell, sounds like you went on to a better one. Congratulations!!! You're going to have some fun this winter!!!

Two things came to mind...

First: I have no idea how this 96 XLT is equipped, but if you're going to pipe it, I just happen to have a set of the "right" pipes for ya. They're made by Starting Line Products. Triple pipes with triple silencers. They produce a real nice crackle and a good power gain. Retail for around $450.00. For you, I'll let these slightly pre-owned babys go for $200.00 hard cash. Install is a breeze and they even work with the stock clutching with only a spring change. Re-jet the carbs and you flyin'!!!

Oh yeah. The monoblock triples we're all jetted too rich from the factory. Sort of a C.Y.A. thing I believe. I'll check the book for right jetting if you want me to.

Second: Since you're not going for the 95, how about emailing me the info on it? With the house almost done, I may be in need of another project sled.

Good Luck, have fun and let me know if you want the pipes.

Here's the link to check out those pipes if you're interested.
