Cold Front

Did anyone do well yesterday before or this morning before the cold front? I wanted to get out yesterday but couldn't, I fished this morning on the river got one small muskie, and 3 small pike on a Phantom. Some activity but didn't see any nice ski's on a few spots I have seen them before, The wind got worse and got blown off the river. I think I picked the wrong body of water, I don't know why I keep going back to that river, the shot at a fish of a lifetime I guess. AJ

We were on a lake near Brainerd Yesterday and today, nothing caught, but yesterday no lie we had upwards of 40 follows, fish were coming frome every spot I have on this lake, I have never seen so many fish without a single taker, tried everything, it seemed that they were a little boat shy. We just got home tonight and today we only saw about 5, one strike and that's it. Alot of the fish we saw were 45+ inches.

Stratosman,
Where you on Alexander or Shamana(SP?) ?
My buddy fishes Shamana a lot and sees a lot of fish but doesn' get a lot to the boat, I don't like these lakes because they are to clear, so the fish get a great look at the baits. A lot of muskie strike are reaction strikes and you don't get as many reaction strikes in clear water. I would try some night fishing. AJ

Hey Stratosman, I second andy j's recommmendation of night fishing. I've never had enough success at night to make me pursue this option too often... BUT... I was just up on Cass a couple weeks ago and we experienced the same thing you did. TONS of follows. All different baits. Seemed moderately aggressive too. But as soon as they were boatside and we started a figure 8, they'd fade or flair off. This went on for two consecutive days before we tried night fishing. 1 hour or so after sunset, stuck a 42 and a 39 within 15 minutes of each other. A few cranks into the retrieve too. Give it a shot.

We were on Alex, I have been fishing this lake for many many years and have had great luck, I usually make a few muskie trips up there each year and I think this is the first time we didn't land one, wierd for the amount of follows we had, I have probably 15-20 spots that I can always move fish on, but Tuesday it was multiple fish on the same spots, but very passive. We didn't try night fishing because we got there at 8:00 Tuesday morning and fished till 7:00 that evening and were wiped out. But I have caught them at night before, IT probably would have been a good night to be out with the impending cold front. Oh well, this is still my favorite muskie lake hands down, maybe I can get up there one more time.
