A link to the news release is now available on the DNR home page...This is the final version with some changes made after the comment period...applications will be available in mid August!

I also found this infomation interesting...seems we are a bit outnumbered!

DNR received 7,351 online survey responses during the public comment period. The survey was not a referendum on whether to hold the season but to elicit comments on how the season would be implemented.

Do you support hunting and trapping for wolves in Minnesota?

Yes 1,542 responses 21 percent

No 5,809 responses 79 percent

Do you support the DNR proposed season structure and implementation for a limited fall 2012 season?

Yes 1,357 responses 81.9 percent

No 300 responses 18.1 percent

Now that I know the whole deal, I think personally I'll be applying for the late season in the NW zone, more than likely as a trapper, that's where I see the best chance of getting drawn with the limited number of permits and harvest quota's for this, the first season...So, what is everyone else thinking?

I'll be applying for a late season hunting permit and hunt in the NE zone (depending on boundaries). I want to see if I can hunt one rather than see if one just comes along by chance during the deer season.

I have been debating if I should apply or not. I have hunted deer in NE Mn for over 50 yrs and have not seen a wolf with a deer rifle in my hands, so I think the odds don't look promising for the deer hunter to bag a wolf. Trapping will be the best option.

i have been hunting about 50 miles north of Duluth since the early 60's in the same area to this day. i have seen one pack one time during firearms season on my stand, two individuals on my stand, and a couple that where shot off a snowmobile trail up there where we hunt. now that's over all this period of time so that's not many sightings by any means.

i dont know if they will allow baiting or not, but outside of that i agree that trapping will get more than a rifle hunt. good luck.

When I deer hunt, I deer hunt, but I.M.O., if anyone shoots a wolf, they can go buy a liscense, and they probably still won't fill their quotas. Maybe it will be this way in the future. Good luck. The blaze orange will give you away.

I will probably apply for a license in the NE zone that coincides with deer season. I just won't have time for a designated wolf hunt during the late season this year. They are THICK where we hunt, and we always seem to see a few during deer season, so I like our odds if we draw tags.
