Work Bench

Recommended Posts

Looking to get a 8'-9' foot work bench to setup my new thread wrapper. was wondering what you guys have used? I don't want the bench to be to wide so I was thinking about picking up a skinner sheet of plywood and making a long shelf from that...

Any ideas or thought on how to set it up or where to find something like this? Going to head to menards after work to see what they got but who knows.

i had one when i moved in that was built out of scrap 2x4 with a counter top on it. it was 24 inches wide and 7 ft long. it had a shelf half way down to hold various things. legs were 4x4 post. It was a solid very nice bench. you can make one cheaper than buying one i would think if you have scraps laying around.

For most of my workbenches at various houses, I pick up a 8 ft section of countertop at Menards. They run $46, look real nice and are easy to wipe up spills. I normally build a simple frame out of 2x4s to set it on. I'd also decide what type of chair you're going to want (office chair / bar stool / etc,) to determine what height you'll want the counter at to be comfortable.

I just got a 10 ft counter top with a back splash with 4 heavy duty wall brackets. I just use a desk chair on rollers and don't have to worry about any legs to run into.

This is one easy idea for a bench. I use this one for my power wrapper.

Its a 16" P-lam shelf board from the Depo with 5 large HD shelve brackets also from the Depo.

Its stable and long with plenty of depth. The shelf brackets allow my office chair free roam of the entire bench without the interference of table legs.

Cheap and easy.
