fishinmike
I was reading in Field & Stream about this fish that was caught over on the east coast called the Northern Snakehead. Its like a cross between a northern and a dogfish. Ugliest thing i've ever seen. Says that no fish can stand up to its quickness, strength and aggressiveness. It has no natural predators. It eats up to 3x its body wait and can wipe out and entire lake. Get this--it can survive out of water and walk on its fins!(SNAKEhead) Anyone else heard about this fish? Just imagine the damage that this sucker could do if it got all the way over to Minnesota. Hopefully, that never happens. Does any one got anything to say about this??Best wishes and fishes, Mike
hanson
Yeah, saw that article too. I've heard about them critters before. Nasty.I think its awesome that the Bass Pro Shops in D.C. or wherever it is out there is putting a bounty on the snakeheads.
RuKiddingMe
I remember when the story about the snake head broke last year or two years ago... In Maryland... Here's some interesting reading...http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/fishingreport/snakehead.htmlhttp://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/snakeheadinfosheet.htmlRU
FishinWilly
Actually not a cross between northern and dog fish. It is an Asian fish that is some sort of cuisine there. It was brought over to the US to be eaten/pet fish type of situation and then thrown out. And since it can survive out of water and can actually "walk" it meandered over to the nearest body of water and took up residence....until it ate everything, then it meandered over to the next nearest body of water...rinse and repeat. It really ticks me off when people bring foreign animals into the country and release them not knowing how the new species could really screw up our eco system. just look at that carp that the DNR is worried about infesting our lakes. Or the red crawfish (I know southerners brought them up) or even eurasian milfoil. ------------------Selling copiers by day, hooking into the bigguns by night

fishinmike
$10-$50 gift certificates to Bass Pro. I totally agree about how it makes me mad when all these foreign creatures here and they brutalize our eco system--give us a break!!

Bubbadust
You can buy those snakeheads in several petstores here in MN. I used to work at one of those stores and people would occasionally bring back fish that had outgrown their home aquariums and I have seen a couple big snakeheads come back!Bubbadust
Stratosman
Nothing ever good comes from importing exotics from other countries. Except maybe Anna Kournikova.
