Another depth ?

Recommended Posts

Im not sure how to put this so bare with me. I know fish are caught shallow and deep but, is this time related? Are the shallow fish caught prime time and weather conditions. So fish the deep breaks during the day high sun then move shallow at night or do fish bite down deep after sundown.

Id like to start fishing at night just trying to find out if the fish stay deep, say 15 to 20. If it depends on baitfish movement, what do the gills do when its dark head for cover, drop to the bottom or stay suspended if there already.

Trying to find fish, when you dont have time before the sundown, in the dark seemed tough the first time out. Just need more pieces of the puzzle called minnetonka. Been there 8 time with no fish in the boat, dont wanna give up just yet. Any other thoughts on night fishing depth is welcome.

Hey I think if you're on Tonka it's usually worth mixing in a shallow spot or two after dark, especially early and late summer when water temps are favorable. Have seen the action move from the deep edge at dark to shallow later on in the same night, so especially on lakes like tonka, it's good to mix in a shallow spot or two with your first handful of spots. Easy to do since the good shallow stuff is usually smaller and quicker to fish than a deep edge spots.

When the water hits 70 on the way down in september I'm shallow most of the time. Another thing in general to think about is that finding fish after dark gets much easier if you do good figure 8s after every cast. You need that extra boatside time in the dark to see/sense follows and you'll catch more fish, even shallow after dark I still try and do at least 3 big loops.

Last thing I'll say is that I've never, ever, ever, ever seen any kind of correlation between big schools of sunnies that you're talking about and fish being on a spot, so I don't worry about that anymore, but do know of a few times that people have seen bait balls out deeper on tonka and fished them successfully.
