24V charging

keyks42

Question

I have a 24V charging system with my trolling motor. I have noticed this year when I go charge my batteries that only one battery needs a charge. Is this right I thought they where suppose to evenly pull a charge off of both batteries. I do pull my batteries and charging system each year so maybe this year I hooked something up wrong. Thanks for any help in advance.

Mark

24v = two 12v in series. Either something is hooked up incorrectly or that one battery needs to be replaced.

On mine, in have a 36v system, so three in series. One will always lag a bit and then evenually, will not take a charge or wear down rather quickly.

If the batteries are in series the same current goes through both batteries. For one to draw down more must mean it has lower capacity, probably due to deterioration.

How do you tell only one needs charge? And after how much use?
