Cast or Troll

Recommended Posts

I would have to say casting by a long shot. I like hurling 4oz baits 1/2 mile and cranking them in. Even without seeing or catching any lunge it's an adventure just using the big baits.

Trolling can be done for any other species, launching big plugs is just for muskies

do both ! i love to cast, but after a while my shoulders won't take it. so i go trolling for a while. i keep reading about muskies suspending in open water and that trolling is a good way to catch one or two. del

Casting just because there is nothing like seeing a fish blow up on your lure. shocked.gif

I do however like trolling almost as well because hooking percentages go way up. Not to mention more water can be covered.

I agree with both. I love casting out those big lures for the muskie and I also like to cover a lot of water. However, im yet to catch my first muskie ever, and i havent had any luck casting, not even a follow (Ive fished at night so i might've had one). Lately ive been trolling and have caught 5 nice northern that are keeping me busy. Hopefuly if i keep puttin in my time in on both techniques, ill get one someday. Good luck on the water

muskielure, what part of the state are you muskie fishing. I know a lake that you can catch a bunch of 30" to 37" muskies. They just dont get any bigger in this lake. Its a good lake for someone looking to break the muskie cherry.
