Coating a net

Scoot

Recommended Posts

I've got a large muskie net, but it's not coated. I know I can bring it places and have it dipped. However, can I just do it myself by using the spray on coating that you can buy to put a plastic coating over tools? Seems like it should work, shouldn't it?

Scoot, I tried the spray, I put a big beach ball in the net (to hold it open) and sprayed a couple cans over the net. I then flipped it and did the inside. The stuff just flaked off.

Try dipping or do the replacement bag idea, that is what I did. I put a Big Kahuna bag on my old net.

Good Luck!

I can't remember what it's called, but there is some stuff that you can soak the net in and then hang it up to let it dry. My brother did it to his net and the coating turned out great, there's really no difference from the treated nets you would buy. The stuff cost him about $10 to $12 for two cans. His only suggestion is to use rubber gloves when doing it or your hands will be stained for awhile. If I remember what it's called, I'll post it. But you should be able to get it at a Home Depot, Menards, or any other decent hardware store.

Scoot,

He doesn't remember what it's called. But I'm thinking it's called Rubberize It. For some reason, that's sticking in my head. I know he bought two cans of it to get the coating on his net. I believe he just poured the stuff in a bucket, put the net in there and sloshed it around in there for a bit, then hung it from a tree to dry.

I know he said the net was as stiff as a board when it was hanging in the tree so he was worried he ruined his net. But it loosened up after he played with it a bit. And like I said, it wound up just like the treated nets you'd buy for a much higher price.
