Still Need Help with Humminbird High Speed Transducer Location

clKiekhafer

Question

I've read the posts on this site and haven't found the answer I need on locating the high speed transducer for my 998. I have it installed as suggested in the instructions with the transducer center line even with the boat bottom, 12-24" from motor and not on any ribs/rivets. I'm still getting a rooster tail that shoots straight up the transom. Has anyone else had this problem and what adjustment did you do to correct it. I've looked at many installation pictures on different threads, but mine is on a Lund 1700 Fisherman. When I had my Lowrance that worked great, it was shaped like a bullet and was smaller in size.

I hope someone can help me. I like the unit, but not the rooster tail.

Thanks

you must have a 798 (compact xducer) and an 898 or higher with the HDSI.

I have a hard time believing your getting a roostertail with the HDSI as high as it is. I get a small roostertail with my HDSI., but I also get speed readings to 40, so Im not going to try to eliminate the rooster tail..

You are right I do have two units. I'm not having any trouble with the SI transducer it is only the high-speed one that is giving me trouble. I get good readings with the high-speed transducer all the way up to max speed of ~50mph, but the rooster tail is spraying water into the back of the boat. The water is shooting straight up and coming through the hole in my wave-whacker around my handle supporting my swim platform.

If anyone else has a suggestion I'm sure going to listen. I will be calling HB today to see if they can help me out.

As suggested on this thread twice I contacted Humminbird and there is a plug that goes in the mounting that should eliminate or greatly reduce the rooster tail. They offered to send one out to me thinking I had lost it without charge, nice service Humminbird smile ! I found mine in the box of parts so I will be installing it today and trying it out. I will report back on my results.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

If thats the high speed to the right, its way too low. It doesnt have to be that deep in order to read at speed..

I found the solution to my rooster tail problem today. grin After a couple of suggestions from folks on the thread I called HB. It appears that there is a plug that goes on top of the transducer in the front that fills in the hole. They are sending me out out in the mail. I went out to look through all the various parts that I have from the two units and sure enough it was there. I put it in and tried it out and no more rooster tail.

Thanks to everyone for your help, I'm a happier guy now. smile
