Lakemaster on Garmin Nuvi?

I have access to a Garmin version of a LOW/Rainy lake map chip and I am wondering if I can use this with a Garmin Nuvi 1490?

I have read about guys doing it, I believe you have to change something in one of the menus, but I don't remember what.

Any advice?

That chip will work just fine in the Nuvi. You are correct on the Map setting, it's been a little while since I messed with my Nuvi but I think you can go to Tools, then Settings and then Maps. From there you can change which map is displayed( you should see the Woods / Rainy data listed there, checkmark that box only ) and also how much contour detail is displayed.

There is also an option about following roads or just display location on there some way. They use the fact that you are on the street to refine the location.
