Cooter
Anybody got some favorite spinnerbaits for trolling muskies? Was just looking at a Pastikas catalog as well as Helen and Rollies HSOforum - there are a lot of them available, need to narrow things down a bit. Big G
I would recommend that whatever you use, put a treble hook for a trailer. "MOST" times, the fish tend to hit the spinner blade, not the body. Most of my fish are "jaw" hooked.I have about 5 spinner baits where the spinner blade has been ripped off, from the fish hitting it while trolling at high speeds. Frustrating to say the least.........
Lost
Big G, would you recommend the trailer treble being connected behind the blade or to the spinner's hook?
markkstanley
Rad Dogs and Grim Reapers in 2 to 3oz size have been great for me. Get both willow and Colorado blades. Some days it's willow others Colorado. I use single hooks all the time and haven't noticed any problem in hooking up. And single hooks do far less damage to fish ( and me for that matter). I also tend to add plastic tails either twister or paddle tails. Troll anywhere from 3 to 5 mph. In fall I actually switch out the plastics and hook on a sucker. Haven't had an issue with losing blades. But my spinners get so smashed up after two or three fish I usually have to chuck them - wish they made spinners in the 2 to 3oz range with titanium wire. I fish Tonka mostly and this tactic works for burning over the weeds as well as the weed edge.
Big G
I recommend removing the single hook and replacing it with a treble. Again, this is my personal experience.........Don't know why, maybe it is becausee of the Mille Lacs fish, but I ALWAYS get hit on the blade. ALL of my fish (atleast 90%) seem to be hooked on the bottom of the jaw. So, the trebble hook seems to help my hooking percentage a bit.
