Saw a goofy thing!

The other night I was out on my favorite South Dakota Lake and saw about a 5-6 puond pike cruising around with it's entire head sticking out of the water. It only lasted for about 30 seconds and then it swam away. The fish appeared to be healthy.
Any thoughts?

Ya I say the same thing on one of my local lakes last year. It was about this time also. The fish was about a 16lb pike, it was huge. It looked like it attacked a motor blade b/c it had a big gash on its side. At the time we were in the pontoon going on a cruise and saw this. Since a pontoon isnt to manuverable we had to turn around, catch up and get a close look... the closest we got was about 6' away then it slowly went down and we could see a cut mark on the fish. It was just sliced right down the right side of the fish.
To bad too b/c it looked like a healthy fish.

But I have also heard that this helps there digestive system too. It speeds it up for the fish. Im sure someone can back me up on that one.
