25' Christiansen seine net with bag vs. cabelas 25' nylon w/out bag

lispeej

Question

I know this has been talked about in the past. I know that people will go for the christiansen seine net with the bag over others. But I wanted to get others opinion first before I pull the trigger at buying one of these.

I am either going to buy the nylon 25' from cabelas, or the 25' christiansen seine net from duluth.

The cabelas one doesn't have a sock and runs approx. $50.

The christiansen one has a sock and runs approx. $200

Huge price difference, is why I am asking.

These would be used for smelting.

Thanks.

I got a christiansen without the sock, wish i had got the sock. But it still works. Bought it last year and its worth the investment. Trust me. Harder to pull but you will catch more. I also have two of those cabela ones your talking about. Unless you have a handy wife who can sew in a sock for that cabela one. I'm thinking about adding a sock into my nets too, just have to figure out how I will be doing it. Looks like your in the metro area, if you want to come check out my christiansen before you buy let me know. I'd be glad to show you.

Christiansen is made of different material than the one from cabelas. Did you check christiansens HSOforum? It shows you the material and hole size. The material is a little thicker than the cabelas one. The cabelas one is for minnows and the material is thin and stiff. I'm going to sew a sock into the cabelas one today and I'll take a picture of them for you today.

Surface tension, i called them last year and the guy said they couldn't sew a sock in for me which was a bummer cuz i spent so much on it. I'm still working on that last pull in, it's kinda tricky cuz of the ledge going onto the sand. Me being a lady at 5ft 3 makes it hard to make it up to the sand.

KLEE.

I was told by christiansen that the sock is 4'x4'x4'.

I ordered the one with the sock today. I should be receiving it tomorrow.

I still wonder how others are tieing there rod-handles to the ends of the net. Can someone post pics please.?

So I received my new 25' christiansen net with sock today, and for some reason,,,I am not very impressed with the quality of workmanship and material. My only concern is that if I don't do this, it seems like it will fall apart after a few uses.

Question:

Are you guys reinforcing the top and bottom of the net with zip ties/strings to make it seem more sturdy?

How do you like the net? thinking along same lines, either buy or make.

I haven't seen the picture of the Christensen net but curious when they say sock is 4x4x4. If the net is only 4 foot tall does the sock go completely top to bottom? If not what is the opening look like?

Thanks

Yes it does. I have never had any issues with my Christensian net. Must be about 12 years old or more now. Some good thick wall PVS and caps and a rope from top to bottom to straddle will make it MUCH easier on your back. See BD110 post on Duluth forum with pics.
