Lowrance Structure Scan Questions

MuskieJunkie

Question

Does anyone run SS on a 5" screen? I'm looking at getting another unit and having a hard time justifying all the money to have a 7 or 8" screen but I'm worried the 5" is too small - like buying a corvette with a V6 motor. I have a friend that works for lowrance and swears by the HDS8 (apparently it has a much better picture than the 7).

Also any other advice you guys have would be great, thanks.

Lowrance has rebates right now until April 30th for anyone else that is looking.

A 5 inch screen will work but the larger screens are much nicer, especially if you are going to run in split-screen mode. Think of side scan as looking at a photograph and trying to pick out all the interesting details .... much easier to do with a larger photograph than a smaller one, but it can be done with the smaller one. Hope that helps.

I am having the same dilema MJ. I found a great deal on an HDS 5 Gen 2 with StructureScan included. I played around in the store with the unit a little bit today and it didn't seem to bad, but I can see how it could strain your eyes out on the water for looking at the unit for long periods of time. That is the reason why I was contemplating whether or not to purchase the StructureScan at a later date and upgrade the screen size now.
