Fishing for Pike/Muskies

What are some of the best ways to fish for pike and muskies this time of year? The deep weedlines, rocks or even out in the deep water? Do you like to cast or troll? Deep divers or on the top?

My Pike fishing is limited to non-existent. However, in the course of fishing Crappies I find I lose a fair number of fish to some aggresive Pike.

If I could find a lure that looked like about an 8" Crappie, and run that baby down the deep weedlines I think a bunch of 8# + Pike would be coming my way.

Good luck on the toothy critters!

Storm lures sell different styles of imitation plastic minnows. I have fan-casted and slow trolled these along and over deep weed lines or any type of deep structure with great results. Thru my experience it seems the bigger pike hammer these lures hard rather than just suck on them before realizing they are hooked. My daughter and I boated and released at least a dozen 3 to 8 pound pike last weekend with one going 37 inches. (Not sure how much that pig weighed, fat and sassy though). These plastic lures seem to last also. Of course the pike tear them up, but we managed to use one plastic Storm minnow to catch at least 4 pike per minnow. Give-em a try.

Take a look at 7.5" Phantom (muskie lure) in the crappie pattern. Might be the ticket.
