Ice off crappies

I want to go do some crappie fishing as soon as the ice is off and wondering what hooks or things to use to catch them also where the crappies are usually at right around ice off like are they coming in shallow or still out deeper

In the warmest water on the lake. I have caught them in boat channels that were ice free while there was still ice on the lake. Flu flu jigs or similar jigs tipped with nothing or gulp or waxies.

I would assume that your best bet is hitting the bays or shallow water since they warm up the fastest.

As soon as the ice if off they are still hanging around the places they were just before it left. They will start moving into the shallows as the water warms a little. Give it a week after ice off and you'll start seeing them during the sunny warm days. If we get cold snaps, it can push them back towards late ice spots.

Anywhere there is water running into the lake or just a shallow bay. Use flu flu jigs, little tubes, or minnows under a bobber. Work the bait some what slow and they will find it.
