Johnson's Cargo System for a snowmobile?

Scoot

Question

Has anyone used Johnson's Cargo Systems for snowmobiles? They look really great and I'm curious if anyone has used them? How strong/sturdy are they? How easy/difficult are they to install initially? Any info would be appreciated...

I looked at them mounted on a couple of machines and talked with the guy that makes them. They are well made and sturdy enough, 1" square steel tube, expanded metal and so on. They attached to the bumpers of the sleds I saw with additional supports to the tunnel. The price was fair, unless you make them yourself I don't think you could have them made commercially for any less. My only concerns were how far behind the seat they ended up, by the time they were loaded with gear it would really add weight beyond where the suspension was designed to carry it, almost a cantilever effect. Putting a 100 lbs. back that far just about bottomed out the sled's suspension when I looked them over and that was sitting still. I have a bearcat with a lot of carrying capacity over the tunnel but it also has overload leafs that can be raised when you load it up, it makes a huge difference in how the sled handles. I have hauled big loads on the sled and found that for my needs towing a sled behind works way better than carrying big loads on the sled.

Thanks for the reply Transporter. I should have been more detailed- my buddy, who's interested in this, would be looking at getting the transporter system and not one of the setups that you load your house onto. I can certainly see how your comments about weight and suspension would be a concern for hauling the whole house! My buddy's thinking about just getting the auger and electronics out of the house and still pulling the house behind the sled.
