st.croix rage rods

These look like a new line of rods to me. Anybody know anything about them or held one?

ya. They started showing up last fall. i bought a 6'8'' medium xtra fast to fish senkos. I was skeptical on the grip but I don't notice any difference from cork. The action on it and sensitivity is nice. It's the same blank as the Avid line just with different guides and components and it's made in mexico and only carries a 5 year warranty instead of the lifetime like the avids. The pac-bay minima guides don't seem like a true micro like the duckett rod has but they are smaller than normal guides. I paired the rod with a shimano citica with 10 pound fluoro and I do like the rod but i never caught a fish with it last year.

I am thinking about getting the 6'8" MXF as well. I have yet to hold one but I'm interested to see what the grip feels like.

looked at one briefly the other day and really didnt like the feel of the handle. looks cheap and felt like cheap plastic or something.

The grip is like a hard rubber. almost like a steering wheel or something. they say when it gets wet it gets stickier. I haven't tested that yet. I just ordered a duckett micro majic today. They are in the same price range. So in a few months when the season opens I will try and get a comparison on the two side by side. I'm sure a lot of people are like me and cant afford 3 and 4 hundred dollar rods. given the limited experience I have with the rage so far I would recommend it for anyone looking in that mid hundred range. It is much better feeling than my mojos.

I think the mojo's are a pretty sensitive rod for the money, so I would expect similar things from the rage rods.

i have a rage i bought a 7' 2" mh havent tried it yet like most of the other posts but i dont like the handle or the reel seat. but the sesitivity seems to be nice. i would advise to save the money and get a mojo

they are more sensitive than the mojo line. Also feel a little less tip heavy than the mojos do.

They are the same blank as the Avid, but built in Mexico instead of WI. I held a couple at thorn and while the shorter ones felt nice, the 7' and up models felt really tip heavy, similar to the 7'+ Mojos.

good to know blakjack. i've only played with the 6'8'' rage. I had 4 mojos. I'm down to only one now because of how tip heavy they were. only one I kept was the 7' MH for throwing 1/2 and 3/4 spinnerbaits with an older heavier real that helps balance it better.
