Snake/Clog Question

SkunkedAgain

Recommended Posts

The floor drain in my basement laundry room is plugged. Two years ago the plumber took his snake and cleared it out. Now it's back up again. I have a snake and have used it in many other applications before. However, when I stick it in this floor drain it only gets a few inches before getting stuck/caught on something in the plumbing.

What is it and more importantly, how do I bypass it to get to the blockage? It would be great to hold off on bringing in a plumber if possible!

I've never had much luck snaking out floor drains either, but if you push hard enough you should be able to get through. If you think the clog is past the trap most floor drains have a bypass plug on the side you can remove and snake through that.

Take the bypass plug out and see if the water goes down any faster then you will know that your blockage is in the trap. A couple easy remedy include shop vac the trap out, use garden hose and "jet" your way through, heck even sometimes a plunger will work. If it's not any faster than you know your blockage is after the trap. Take the plug out and run your snake in the line and hope for the best.
