Hummingbird 385 ci

Was thinking of selling my lx5 and getting one of these. I like the fact that it has GPS built in and will accept my lakemaster chip ( I think? ). Will it work well in the summer on a boat ( different transducer )? Want to reduce the number of things needed to get the job done ( ice, summer, and gps all in one ). Any input is would be great! Thanks!

I bought one last fall (The 385ci portable. It came with the boat transducer) and loved it! Then I bought the ice ducer and have used it all winter and love it even more. Honestly the best money I have spent towards fishing in a long time. I have the lakemaster chip in it which is also nice, but the gps it came with is pretty sweet too.

Buy one with no doubts or worries. These things are GREAT units.

Like amateurfishing, I have the 597, and I have it rigged up for ice fishing as well. Just had to get the ice transducer and the portable case/mount.

But the 385 is an excellent, reasonably priced unit. The flasher mode will serve you well on the ice, and it is a very good unit for the boat. It will take the Lakemaster chip. The only downside is that the screen is a bit small when you split it between depth finder/GPS in the summer.

But again, an excellent all-around unit that you will be happy with.

I bought one of these last year and love it, the features that you have for ice fishing are phenomenal plus the GPS works extremely well. I have used it on LoW, Lake Bemidji, Up North by Ely, MN and many rivers, and most of the water ways come on the unit stock. no additional chip needed unless you want to get water depths. I also have the transducer for the boat and that works really well. It is nice to have one unit for both summer and winter. It also has the nice flasher feature but I find myself using the scrolling bottom view more often because it gives you a "history" of what has happened. Makes spotting those walleyes that don't come off bottom a little easier because you can tell that bottom got "shallower"

I have also gotten two of my buddies to buy it after letting them borrow mine for a weekend.

Plus the zoom feature is pretty cool

I bought an Lx7 this year and Im not totally sold on it. I figure I might use it for the rest of the winter and try it on the boat, But If i decide to sell it the 385 is next on my list of units to try.

I like the face that its a multi purpose unit and also the fact that it can be added to the 55 as a double unit.

I love the 385ci to death and have enjoyed every minute on the ice with it. The one thing that the LX-7 has that I REALLY wish the bird had is the narrow transducer cone. I know the LX-7 has an 8 degree and I wish the bird had an 8 or 12 degree option. I think it would give you much finer definition when fishing deeper water. Love that it has the GPS capability too... something the LX-7 doesnt. Not a huge deal for ice fishing because I have a handheld as well, but for open water it is a must in my book. Very pleased owner so far.

I bought one earlier this winter and ran it next to my Ice45. The 385 is a great all around unit, but it wasn't quite as accurate, as far as a flasher, as the Ice45. I already owned the Ice45 and just wanted to see if I could replace it with the 385 so I could use that in the boat too. I ended up keeping the Ice45, taking the 385 back, and saving a little more money to get the HB 788ciHD. I haven't looked into getting the 788 hooked up for use on the ice, but man, the LakeMaster chip and GPS on the 788 are awesome!

Sure would be nice to have an affordable all in one unit for both ice and open water. (GPS with high def maps, ice ducer with multiple cone angles, adjustable zoom, interference rejection, boat ducer with speed, then add in the new HB 360 degree scan) Ahh, we can dream right! smile

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
