Any issues with 2000 Merc 25 hp 4 strk?

Looking at buying a 25 hp 4 stroke and found a used 2000 25hp Merc in my price range. Just curious if there are any known issue with these earlier engines. If I recall they may have been made by Yamaha?

I don't think the 25 hp merc was a yamaha... Should be a good motor for you.

I believe that year was a carbed motor. The carburetors can be very easily clogged if the gas is not treated properly. The orifices in the carb are very small and tend to clog with deteriorating gas if not run often.

Some times even with treated gas they have been know to clog. If it only has one carb it may not create a big issue as you can pull the carb and clean your self. The motors with multiple carbs had to be synced and that needed a good mechanic and tools to do.

That was my experience with Mercury 4 stroke carbed motors. When carb was clean and gas was fresh the ran like a dream. Other wise Not so much.

I run a 2001 2 Stroke and have had no issues...I have only had it for a couple years but seems pretty dependable.
