Steve Foss
Tuli: There is a search feature higher up the page. If you use it and type in "filleting pike," it should get you to previous posts on the subject. Some of those previous threads also include links to pictures and drawings on how to do it, too. That's one great thing about this site. That search feature is like having a whole library of expertise at your fingertips.
Lunker
Years ago(and still) people hated pike because the y bones "couldn't" be avoided. Years ago my dad got a sheet of paper from mepps that shows the best way, no bones included, and we've been eating northerns for years bone free(my fav size is about 21") Any way, as best as I can describe it, you start behind the head and cut along the spine all the way down the back to the fin on the back of the back. You have one good steak there. Then you can look down on the fish from above and see the rib bones. You slide your knife along those and come out the belly side, and cut along those ribs to where the back fillet ended. Repeat on other side of fish. There are 2 more fillets. Then cut the same way as the last two from where the fillet ended to the tail on both sides. 2 more fillets. Thats my tactic. If you cannot decipher my instructions, email me at [email protected], and I can send you a copy of the instructions. Good luck.
