Jiffy leaking gas?

DRH1175

Question

I have a older, mid 90's jiffy model 30 that runs great. After sitting or while transporting it seems to leak gas out of the exhaust port. What is causing this? My auger always leaked a little out of carb after priming, before starting, but that is normal for this auger. But now it is leaking about a 1/4 cup or so out of exhaust after sitting for a while. Anyone know what is causing this?

I just took my older jiffy into have the blades sharpened and a fresh tune up.

Mine leaked, but it was the old fuel line that got dried and cracked. Also the gas caps are prone to leaking as well and the shop I took mine to locally suggested I replace it with an updated one.

Not cap I have a new one. Also just replaced the fuel line and primer line. The gas is deffinitly coming out of the exhaust. I also just rebuilt the carb put new seals, o rings, needle, seat and diaphram and put it back together exactly how I took it apart. It runs great, the best it ever has, just leaks on the floor.

I had the same problem when I rebuilt the carb this year. Gas leaking out the exhaust and carb. I took the diaphram and cover off and dried everthing by the needle valve. It appeared to leaking from the needle valve seat or in that area. Tried to reseat the rubber seat and tried again it still leaked. The rubber seat does have to be installed a certain way. Mine was and it still leaked. I put the old seat and needle back in and let it set overnite and didn't notice any gas leaking around the needle valve assembly and into the area which would be above where the is above the diaphram. Tried this with the tank vent closed and opened. Reassembled the diaphram and ran it and checked it this morning and didn't notice any gas leaking out. Depending if you have a letter "F" on the carb flange where the diaphram attaches. Then the diaphram goes next to the carb body otherwise the gasket goes next to the carb body. The rivet head on the diaphram goes towards the needle valve. If the needle leaks it appears that the gas flows from the tank through the carb priming passage and either into and through the cylinder or some would eventually leak out the carb intake throat. Hope this helps.
