How to jig for Walleyes?

So I have not been having much success with Walleyes. When you guys or gals are jigging for Walleyes, and a Walleye approaches, do you lift up your pole and make it chase up and then the EYE will strike the lure/jig? If not then, are you guys/gals making the Walleye come up a few feet and then just jig it in a stationary position and it will then strike?

I have tried both ways with little success, but I am wondering which method is the preferred method.

Try to read them. If they come up to your lure while jigging and you stop and they just sit there and go back down, then next time try jigging the whole time. A lot of times they hit it on the fall. I've hooked into plenty of wallyes while not paying attention at all to a flasher or not even using one by just jigging randomly. And what works to catch one walleye might not work to catch the next one. Thats why its always a good idea to have a set line next to your jigging line or a rattle reel or whatever. Also if they arent biting what you're giving them, switch jigs, sometimes its the action of the jig that seals the deal. Hope this helps.
