Use of swivels

I wanted to get some opinions on the use of swivels on jigging rods. I use them for swimbaits. Does anyone use them for jigs, spoons, or any other methods? Also, I tie them up about 18 inches and try to use the smallest swivel I can. Thanks.

I use them on all my lake trout set ups and also when using spoons or rattle baits for walleye. I don't make the leader longer than my rod so the swivel does not go through the eyelets. I have heard of folks up on Winnipeg using longer leaders and swivels so that they know when the sumo greenback is getting close to the hole.
