Ice 55 will it read through ice?

Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem. My friend and i just bought 2 brand new Ice 55s. We took them out yesterday and neither of use could read through the ice. I pulled out the vex fl-18 and in the same spot as the birds it read through the ice with no problem.

I use mine to read throught the ice all the time. I have to make sure I dump some water on the spot I am reading and sometimes, if the ice is "milky' I need to turn up the gain quite a bit, but it has always worked. Don't use the automatic setting when doing this. For some reason the automatic setting can get easily confused.

I did pour water on the ice. I however did have the gain all the way up and in auto mode. This is going to suck if it won't work in auto mode. This is one of the features I was hoping to use when hole hoping and finding the fish.

Did you try switching the beam, since the 55 ducer does come with 2 beams.

it should read... as stated make sure you use water.. and try and find flat ice. it needs a good connection.

checking through ice? are you saying flashers has the ability to read what's below the ice without drilling a hole?

sure they can, do it all the time. the ice needs to be fairly clear and then all that's needed is a little water from the minnow bucket and it will give you your depth and in some cases even show suspended fish. good luck.
