Lake Winnipeg Rod Question

What length rod and action should a person be using on Lake Winnipeg walleyes? Fishing out of an Otter Lodge. I like the Fenwick rods. Is a 28" big enough. They come in medium light or medium heavy. My guess is medium heavy. When they hit they hit pretty hard so sensitivity isn't a big deal. You know it when they do. Just want some opinions on what others use. I busted a rod last year and need to replace it. Accidentally stepped on it. Not broken by a Winnipeg hog.

Ur fine bud.. I was up there for the 1st time 2 years ago. U have to remember there still walleyes. U will have a ton a 18-20 inchers. it wont be hogs hand over fist that will stress ur rod soo much and cause it to break. What ever rod u prefer for walleyes around home will work great...I prefer 28" med lights..

I would agree, your gonna be fine with a M, as long as your playing the fish with drag and the right line you should be good to go. I personally like a longer rod for jigging but if your gonna be in a house a 28 is fine.

Match your rod action with the type of lure you are fishing. Rattle baits are the lure of choice up there right now. Most of them are around 3/8oz. A med action rod might be to light to rip these heavy lures. I like at least MH for "hog callin".

Guys I know way up north use sawed off pool cues with eyebolts on lake like that.
