NotoriousBLM
What do you guys look for in a good spinnerbait? What Color, weight, blade color, blade size(shape), skirting material do you prefer? A trip to Thorne Bros. is a site to behold, and to decide on particular baits is a massive undertaking. Any help would be appreiciated. PS- My wife says I can't buy one of each
TomWehler
Hi We like a Short top shaft for working weeds and a longer top shaft for weedlines or rock & Timber. Also good for slow rolling the depths.1 oz to 3 oz works for us.Top quality heavy wire and terminal components are a must? Many good name brands or styles to chose from. You can also make them yourself if you like?Mix of blades is nice so you can change colors if you like and even sizes or styles? For me simple is best color or pattern wise.Black, white, yellow, red, green, orange... Some kind of mix...Buy one a month and you will soon have them all.You will sure make friends at Thornes!Next time your at Thornes, tell them Musky Tom Wehler sent ya?See what that will get ya besides a very strange smile? Have fun finding what works for you and the waters you fish! T.
guideman
Hi Notorious,Spinnerbaits can be effective in all kinds of conditions at all times of the season. They may all look basicly the same, but there are some differences. As Tommy said, short upper arms, work the best for fishing weeds. Longer wires work great for deeper weed edges and rocks. Willowleaf blades can be run faster andgo through grass much easier than say a Colorado blade will. The skirts vary from hair to plastic in all kinds of configurations, with the choice of trebble hooks or single hook setups.Single hooks perform much better in the slop, but the hooking percentage will be less than a rig with trebble hook.I also find that plastic skirts, often will out produce hair during cold frontconditions. Spinnerbaits are as close to the "perfect bait" as I think one can get. They work all season long day or night, deep or shallow, fast or slow and in all types of weather conditions.Spinnerbaits can be trolled, rolled andfished on top, trully a jack of all trades when it comes to muskie's------------------Ace guide service.Beautiful Lake Vermilion.aceguideservice.com[email protected]
