What do you recommend reading to learn more about Muskie fishing? This year is not going as well as I had hoped (due to lack of time on the water) and I want to get more "Muskie" educated this winter.

Thanks for your help.

You might want to subscribe to Mushy Hunter magazine. It's a slick, readable, and pretty reliable source of Esox info. But, there are others -- shop a good magazine stand that carries outdoor publications.

Thanks the replies Clayton & Duck,

I do subscribe to Musky Hunter Mag and agree that it has some really good info. I have not been a member of Muskies Inc for many years (since my grandfather died some years ago) but I have contacted my local chapter in Duluth since moving to Cloquet from Elk River and do plan on joining when the Muskie season is over.
Anyway I'm still looking for some good books to fill the gap this winter.

I too thought that I "knew" enough about Muskie fishing to land a big one this year. Like everyone else I wish I had more time to spend on the water. The days that I did spend on the water, I hit it hard and Although I did not catch any muskies this year(my fishing partner had all the luck)... I really enjoyed the time out on the water. The only problem I did have was catching those HUGE northerns that like to bite on muskie lures.

I'd subscribe to Musky Hunter mag for the good ongoing tips and stuff. But if you have the winter and want to get steeped in the techniques and equipment, I'd search out a couple books on musky fishing. Mags are great, and I read a lot of them, but they don't repeat themselves a whole lot, so if you've missed a few years' editions, you've missed a lot of stuff. That's why the books. Plus, nice to have a cold beer and a fishing book in front of a warm December fire.

A guide to musky hunting is a good read. It was written by two of the best Steve Heiting and Jim Saric. Lots of usefull info for both the beginer and the advanced. Good Huntin Bro.

When I'm bored at work (not like that would happen), I go to muskie websites and read all the articles by pros. Between this site and reading the articles previously mentioned, I have learned a great deal. If you want to get into greater detail, print the articles off and file them for reference. I like to do this for each species of fish for different situations. Then when the situation arrises, pull your articles out and brush up on some tips.

"Muskies on the Sheild" by Dick Pearson is a great book, I read it from cover to cover the first night I got it and have read it cover to cover many times since. The "Complete Guide to Musky Hunting" by Steve Heiting & Jim Saric is also good. Has good information on fishing specific types of bait.
